The Best... and The Worst: 2007-08 Version

Before we get to the worst show of the season, let’s take a look at my votes for this past season’s ten best:

10. Big Bang Theory (CBS)
And the “biggest surprise of the season” award goes to… The Big Bang Theory. Why such a surprise? Well, because after viewing the pilot last summer, I wrote this one off as just another losing CBS sitcom. Imagine my surprise when the show began to grow on me. Leonard and Sheldon (and with apologies to Sheldon Leonard)… welcome to Mondays!

9. The Simpsons (Fox)
Yes, even after 19 seasons.

8. Flavor of Love 3 (VH1)
Please Flav… please… tell me that season number three wasn’t just all an act for you. You didn’t REALLY have your baby mama in mind all season… did you? Did you, Flav?

7. The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS)
Network “hero and goat” scenario, example #1: God bless you, CBS, for picking up another season of the marginally-rated Old Christine. Damn you, CBS, for moving Old Christine to the death slot of Wednesdays-at-8.

6. How I Met Your Mother (CBS)
A slap countdown? You’ve gotta love a slap countdown. This one is truly turning into a classic.

5. I Love New York 2 (VH1)
Rumor has it that “Tailor Made” wasn’t really tailor made for Miss New York. We’ll find out for sure when New York goes to Hollywood.

4. Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO)
I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait for Mr. Maher and company to start pouring over the 2008 presidential election. But lose the “Real Time Real Reporters,” Bill – they’re slowing down the show. Then again, you know what they say about unsolicited advice…

3. Brotherhood (Showtime)
Network “hero and goat” scenario, example #2: God bless you, Showtime, for picking up another season of the marginally-rated Brotherhood. Damn you, Showtime, for ordering only eight episodes.

2. 30 Rock (NBC)
Seriously… can this show GET any better? I love you, Tina Fey.

1. Lost (ABC)
Flashbacks… flash-forwards… constants… Ben dropping out of the sky… spooky guys in spooky cabins… a smoke monster… Locke in a Box… and even tall ghost Walt! Lost was on fire this season. With its dizzying pace, game-changing / out-of-nowhere plot twists, and some of the finest acting and writing seen on television in a long, long time, for yet another year Lost was truly the best of the best.

And the worst show of the season was (drum roll, please)…

Under One Roof (MNT)
Flavor Flav finds himself in the unusual position of landing on both the “best of” and “worst of” lists for the 2007-08 television season. His Under One Roof sitcom may have wanted to be the 21st century Fresh Prince of Bel Air, but it has instead managed transcend the centuries by wrestling the mantle of “worst sitcom ever” title from the 20th century’s My Mother the Car. Yes, Under One Roof is that bad. In fact, Under one Roof is not only the worst show of the 2007-08 television season… not only the worst situation comedy of all time… but it is also very likely the WORST SHOW of ALL TIME. Yeah, boyeeeee….
